How Do You TP in Minecraft? Every Teleport Method Explained

Use /tp to reach players, coordinates, spawn points, and safe destinations.

How do you tp in minecraft? Enable cheats in Bedrock or use commands with permission, open chat, then enter /tp followed by a player name or three coordinates. For example, /tp @s 100 64 -200 teleports you to X 100, Y 64, Z -200. The same command works as /teleport. How do you tp in minecraft?

Teleporting uses the /tp command, which is an alias for /teleport. You can teleport yourself, another player, several players, or an entity to a set of coordinates or another entity.

You need the right permissions before the command works:

  • Java Edition: cheats must be enabled in a single-player world, or you must have operator permission on a server.
  • Bedrock Edition: cheats must be enabled in the world, or you must have a role that can use commands.
  • Multiplayer servers: some servers disable vanilla teleport commands or replace them with plugins such as /tpa and /spawn.

Open the chat window, type the command, replace the placeholders with real names or numbers, and press Enter. On a console, use the chat and command screen instead of a keyboard slash shortcut.

How to teleport yourself to coordinates

Use this command to move your own character to a specific location:

/tp @s X Y Z

Replace X, Y, and Z with the destination coordinates. For example:

/tp @s 250 70 -430

This sends you to X 250, Y 70, Z -430. You can also leave out @s and use the shorter form:

/tp 250 70 -430

The three coordinates always appear in this order:

  • X: east and west position.
  • Y: height or vertical position.
  • Z: north and south position.

Choose a safe Y coordinate and check that the destination has open space. A command can place you inside a wall, underground, over lava, or high in the air if the coordinates are unsafe.

How to find your coordinates

In Java Edition, press F3 to open the debug screen and find the XYZ position of your character. Some laptops require Fn + F3. In Bedrock Edition, open the world settings and enable Show Coordinates. The coordinates then appear on the screen while you play. ([uk.minecraft.wiki](https://uk.minecraft.wiki/w/%D0%9A%D0%BE%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B4%D0%B8%D0%BD%D0%B0%D1%82%D0%B8?utm_source=openai))

Use relative coordinates for short teleports

A tilde represents a position relative to the command's current location. For example:

  • /tp @s ~ ~10 ~ moves you 10 blocks upward.
  • /tp @s ~10 ~ ~ moves you 10 blocks along the X direction.
  • /tp @s ~ ~ ~-20 moves you 20 blocks along the negative Z direction.

Relative coordinates are useful for testing builds, escaping a small cave, or moving players a short distance without calculating a complete destination.

How to teleport to another player

To teleport yourself to another online player, use:

/tp YourName PlayerName

For example:

/tp Alex Steve

If you run the command yourself, you can usually use:

/tp @s Steve

To teleport another player to you, reverse the target and destination:

/tp Steve @s

You can also use a player name in both positions:

/tp Steve Alex

This moves Steve to Alex. The target player must normally be online and correctly named. Names are case-sensitive in some command contexts, so use the autocomplete suggestions that appear while typing whenever possible.

Teleport multiple people

Target selectors let you choose groups of players:

  • @s: the command's executor.
  • @p: the nearest player.
  • @a: all players.
  • @r: one random player.
  • @e: all entities, including players and mobs.

For example, this command sends every player to the command executor:

/tp @a @s

This command sends the nearest player to fixed coordinates:

/tp @p 100 65 100

Be careful with @a and @e. They can affect everyone online or many entities at once.

How to teleport someone to coordinates

Put the player or selector before the destination coordinates:

/tp PlayerName X Y Z

For example:

/tp Alex 500 72 -120

To send all players to one location, use:

/tp @a 500 72 -120

To teleport a nearby player 20 blocks upward from the command's position, use:

/tp @p ~ ~20 ~

Command blocks can also run these commands. Place the command in a command block, set the activation method, and make sure the selected destination is safe. A command block is useful for spawn rooms, minigame entrances, elevators, and movement between bases. How to teleport to spawn, a bed, or your last death

Vanilla Minecraft does not provide a universal command such as /tpbed or /tplastdeath. You need the destination coordinates, a recovery method, or a server command supplied by the world or server.

Teleport to spawn

If you know the world spawn coordinates, teleport there normally:

/tp @s X Y Z

A regular compass points toward the world spawn in the Overworld, which can help you locate it before recording the coordinates. A server may also provide /spawn, but that is not a universal vanilla command.

Teleport to your bed

A bed sets your respawn point, but it does not create a built-in teleport command. To return instantly, record the bed's coordinates and use /tp @s X Y Z. If you die, Minecraft attempts to respawn you at your valid bed or respawn anchor; if that location is missing or obstructed, you return to world spawn. ([minecraft.fandom.com](https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Bed?utm_source=openai))

Teleport to your last death location

The safest no-command method is a recovery compass. It points toward your most recent death location when you are in the same dimension as that death. It does not teleport you, and it does not work as a useful tracker when you are in another dimension. ([minecraft.fandom.com](https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Recovery_Compass?utm_source=openai))

In Java Edition with commands enabled, you can inspect your stored death position with:

/data get entity @s LastDeathLocation

Use the returned coordinates in a normal teleport command. This Java command is not a universal Bedrock replacement, so Bedrock players should use a recovery compass, saved coordinates, or a server feature.

Java and Bedrock teleport commands

The basic commands are nearly identical in Java Edition and Bedrock Edition. Both accept /tp and /teleport, player names, target selectors, absolute coordinates, and relative coordinates.

  • Java players commonly use F3 to view coordinates.
  • Bedrock players can enable Show Coordinates in the world settings.
  • Bedrock requires cheats or suitable permissions for teleport commands.
  • Java servers require operator permission or another server-provided permission.
  • Advanced syntax, selector options, rotation controls, and cross-dimension commands can differ between editions.

For a basic teleport, use the shared format:

/tp @s X Y Z

For a player-to-player teleport, use:

/tp @s PlayerName

If a command fails, check the edition-specific suggestions shown in chat instead of adding extra arguments from a different version.

Common teleport problems and safer commands

“You do not have permission”

Enable cheats in a single-player Bedrock world, enable commands when creating the world, or grant yourself operator permission where you control the server. On a public server, only an administrator can decide whether teleporting is available.

“Unknown command” or syntax error

Check the slash, spelling, player name, and coordinate order. Use /tp as the short form and let command autocomplete fill in selectors and online player names.

You teleport into danger

Use a destination with solid ground and open space. If you are unsure, teleport several blocks above the location, then descend safely:

/tp @s X Y+5 Z

You can also use Bedrock's optional block check with a suitable command format, but checking the destination manually is still the safest approach. The teleport command can otherwise move an entity directly into an occupied location. ([learn.microsoft.com](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/minecraft/creator/commands/commands/teleport?view=minecraft-bedrock-stable&utm_source=openai))

You expected a server command to work

Commands such as /home, /warp, /tpa, /tpaccept, and /spawn are commonly added by server software or plugins. They are separate from the vanilla /tp command, so their availability and permissions depend on the server.
